A Castle Wedding Dream – Molly & Ross at Markree

Lots of couples planning a destination wedding in Ireland have a vision of how it will be, and for Molly & Ross from Minneapolis, their celebration at Markree Castle was the dream come true. They took over this historic Irish venue with their guests and filled the day with love, laughter, emotional highs, and plenty of dancing until the early hours.

Their love story began at a CrossFit gym — Ross was the coach, Molly the athlete. After secretly dating, Ross proposed during a spontaneous mountain trip in Colorado, ending the day with a surprise dinner surrounded by family flown in from Minnesota. From that moment on, their wedding adventure began.

Molly looked stunning in her Pronovias gown, paired with nude sandals for a glam yet effortless look. Her bridesmaids wore mix-and-match green dresses by Jenny Yoo and Amsale — a perfect match for the castle’s fairytale atmosphere. “We just wanted everyone to have fun and feel like royalty,” Molly said. And that’s exactly what happened — from the meaningful ceremony led by Molly’s uncle, to the pint of Guinness enjoyed post-vows, every moment was filled with joy and intention.

The couple prioritized connection, food, and shared experience. “We’re foodies, and the meals were incredible. Everyone stayed on-site, so there was no need for transportation — it felt like one big family trip.” They added just a touch of cherry blossom decor to the already stunning reception room and let the magic of the place speak for itself.

After the wedding, they honeymooned across Ireland: Galway with friends and family, then peaceful nights at Ashford Castle, spa days in Killarney, a coastal drive along the Wild Atlantic Way, and a stylish finish in Dublin at The Merrion Hotel. “We didn’t want a beach honeymoon,” said Molly. “We wanted an experience — and Ireland gave us everything.”

Clodagh was getting ready in the bridal suite with her bridesmaids and Alistair was preparing just downstairs in the beautiful suite located beside Bulters kitchen. With Bride & Groom both getting ready at the same venue, we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy preparations without rushing. The morning went pretty fast (as always!) and I could easily feel the growing excitement closer to the time of ceremony. Honestly - Chapel at Markree Castle is definitely my favourite onsite Chapel. I love its classic but dramatic look, gothic vibe, strong colours and stunning stained tall glass windows. All this makes chapel so unique and magical. Straight after the Ceremony, we took a walk around the beautiful gardens and took many photos of Bride and Groom before they were ready to join their guests during reception. Stairway speeches couldn’t be more beautiful and the outdoor First Dance was just perfect beginning of the evening celebration. I have to say that Clodagh and Alistair were a pure pleasure to work with and whole team of Markree Castle was just amazing. Deirdre, who is a Markree Castle's Wedding Coordinator, planned the day perfectly with attention to all the details. Everything went so smooth and was so beautifully prepared. A big thank you to all of you, especially Bride & Groom for having me! Hope you will enjoy this little slideshow of the day!

Clodagh & Alistair’s Fairytale Wedding at Markree Castle

Today, I am thrilled to share a stunning slideshow featuring highlights from Clodagh & Alistair’s unforgettable wedding day at the breathtaking Markree Castle. This magical Irish venue provided the perfect backdrop for their celebration, from the early morning preparations to the evening’s joyous festivities. Every moment was filled with elegance, love, and the charm of a true fairytale wedding.

A Personal Connection to Markree Castle

As a documentary-style wedding photographer based just 10 kilometers from Markree Castle, I have had the privilege of working at this venue many times. Its historic charm, picturesque gardens, and timeless interiors make it one of my favorite places to capture love stories. My familiarity with the castle ensures I know the best locations for creating breathtaking photos while making the day stress-free and seamless for couples.

A Perfect Start to the Day

Both Clodagh and Alistair began their day within the castle’s luxurious suites. Clodagh prepared with her bridesmaids in the bridal suite, while Alistair got ready just downstairs in a beautifully designed room near the Butler’s Kitchen. Having both the Bride and Groom on-site made the morning relaxed and seamless. It allowed plenty of time to capture candid moments, soak in the excitement, and truly enjoy the experience without the stress of rushing between locations.

The wedding ceremony took place in Markree Castle’s iconic chapel, one of the most stunning venues I’ve ever photographed. The chapel’s classic yet dramatic Gothic design, complete with tall stained-glass windows and rich colors, creates an atmosphere that is both intimate and grand. Clodagh and Alistair exchanged vows surrounded by their loved ones, filling the chapel with laughter, happy tears, and unforgettable memories.
