A REAL WEDDING AT MARKREE CASTLE
Stephanie & John’s Wedding at Markree Castle
Stephanie and John celebrated their April wedding at Markree Castle, combining an elegant castle morning with a traditional Catholic ceremony at St John’s Church in Carraroe and a relaxed reception back at the castle.
The morning began inside Markree with Stephanie getting ready alongside her family, followed by portraits around the Bridal Suite and a celebratory glass of champagne in the Gin Bar. Giving the morning enough space to unfold without rushing is something I always encourage when planning a relaxed and stress-free wedding morning.
Stephanie had already worked professionally as a model and was naturally comfortable in front of the camera, while John described himself as much less confident with posing. Rather than turning their wedding into a fashion shoot, the photographs were kept relaxed and centred on genuine interaction, emotion and the two of them simply enjoying the day.
Before leaving for the church, they shared a first look on Markree Castle’s grand staircase. Their eight-month-old daughter Elouise was also part of the celebration as their little flower girl, making the day very much a family story as well as a wedding.
After the Catholic ceremony, everyone returned to Markree Castle for the drinks reception, photographs around the estate, dinner, speeches and dancing. We also used coloured smoke during their portrait session, adding something playful and completely different to the classic surroundings of the castle.
Stephanie and John’s wedding was later featured by Galway Now, adding another lovely chapter to the story of their day.

ROMANTIC CASTLES OF IRELAND
One Collection / Four Distinctive Irish Castles
Markree Castle is part of the family-owned Romantic Castles of Ireland collection, alongside Cabra Castle, Bellingham Castle and Ballyseede Castle. Each has its own character, architecture and atmosphere, while sharing the same sense of history and occasion that makes an Irish castle wedding so distinctive.
ANOTHER CASTLE I LOVE TO PHOTOGRAPH
Cabra Castle
I have also been photographing more weddings at Cabra Castle, another beautiful venue within the same family-owned collection. Its woodland setting, historic interiors and distinctive castle atmosphere make it a very different experience from Markree while still feeling unmistakably Irish.
