REAL WEDDING MOMENTS
The moments couples remember most are rarely the ones that were planned.
A glance before the ceremony. A father seeing his daughter in her dress. Bridesmaids laughing together. Guests reacting during the vows. A few quiet minutes outside the castle before the evening begins.
After photographing many weddings at Markree Castle, these are the moments I keep noticing again and again. They are small, unscripted and often over in seconds, but they are usually the photographs that become more meaningful with time.

MOMENT ONE
The Quiet Moment Before the Ceremony
There is often a short pause after everyone is ready and before the ceremony begins. The room becomes quieter, the pace slows and suddenly the reality of the day feels very close.
It might be a bride standing by the window, taking one final look in the mirror or simply breathing before leaving the room. Nothing needs to be directed. My job is usually to give the moment space and photograph it exactly as it happens.
MOMENT TWO
First Look with the Bridesmaids
Bridesmaid first looks are usually full of completely different reactions at the same time. One person laughs, another cries, someone covers their face and someone immediately reaches for a hug.
That variety is exactly what makes the photographs work. Rather than arranging everyone into a perfect formation, I prefer to let the group react naturally and photograph the relationships between them.
MOMENT THREE
First Look with a Parent
A parent seeing their son or daughter ready for the wedding can be one of the quietest and strongest moments of the morning.
Sometimes there are tears. Sometimes very few words are needed. Sometimes it is simply the expression on a face before the hug. These photographs matter because they are about the relationship, not the location or the pose.

First Look as a Couple
A first look gives a couple a few private minutes together before the ceremony begins. It can be emotional, funny, calm or completely unexpected.
At Markree Castle there are several quiet places where this can happen without turning it into a formal portrait session. The most important thing is that the couple has enough space to actually experience the moment.
MOMENT FIVE
The Entrance to the Ceremony
The entrance is one of the few parts of the wedding day where everyone is looking in the same direction at the same time.
At Markree Castle that moment can happen in very different settings, including the chapel, an indoor ceremony space, the terrace or a woodland ceremony beneath the trees. Each setting changes the atmosphere, but the emotion is usually found in the same places: the couple, the parents and the guests watching.

MOMENT SIX
The Vows
The vows are one of the parts of the day where almost nothing needs to be created for the camera.
A hand tightening around another. Someone trying not to cry. A smile halfway through a sentence. A guest reacting in the background. These details often tell more of the story than one perfectly symmetrical ceremony photograph.
I photograph the wider scene as well as the small gestures around it so that the final gallery remembers not only what happened, but how the ceremony felt.
MOMENT SEVEN
The First Kiss and Everyone Around It
Of course the first kiss matters, but some of my favourite photographs from that moment are often happening around the couple.
Parents smile, friends cheer, someone wipes away a tear and another guest starts laughing. Those reactions make the photograph feel like part of a real wedding rather than an isolated ceremony moment.

MOMENT EIGHT
Confetti, Champagne and the Ceremony Exit
The ceremony exit is one of the quickest changes in energy during the entire wedding day.
A few seconds earlier everything may have been quiet and emotional. Then the doors open, guests cheer, confetti flies and the couple suddenly finds themselves surrounded by everyone they love.
These photographs are about movement and reaction, so I normally concentrate as much on the guests as I do on the couple walking through them.
MOMENT NINE
Family Photographs and the Moments Between Them
I still believe a few simple family photographs are worth taking. They become increasingly important as the years pass.
But I am equally interested in what happens immediately before and after the formal photograph: a parent fixing a dress, children losing interest in standing still, grandparents talking together or everyone laughing because something went wrong.
Those unscripted seconds are often the photographs that give the family part of the gallery its personality.
MOMENT TEN
A Quiet Walk Together Later in the Day
Later in the day, there is usually an opportunity to step outside for a short walk together.
Sometimes the light is beautiful. Sometimes the weather is dramatic. Sometimes nothing spectacular is happening at all. What matters is that the couple finally has a little space away from the schedule and the crowd.

Photographing What the Day Actually Felt Like
I do not want every part of a wedding day to become a photoshoot. Some moments need gentle direction, but many of the strongest photographs happen when people are simply allowed to be present with each other.
