REAL WEDDING AT MARKREE CASTLE

Pete & David / A Same-Sex Wedding at Markree Castle

Pete and David celebrated their wedding at

Markree Castle

with their families and friends gathered together in Sligo for a relaxed and colourful celebration.

Both grooms stayed at the castle before the wedding, but chose not to see each other before the ceremony.
Instead, they made separate entrances into the Chapel, creating one of those moments where anticipation
naturally becomes part of the story.

Their civil ceremony included family readings and a unity candle, followed by the drinks reception,
family photographs, time around the castle grounds, speeches and the evening celebration.

This slideshow brings those moments together in the way I remember the day:
personal, joyful, full of character and completely centred around the two of them.

THE STORY IN MOTION

A Wedding Day Told Through Photographs and Music

A slideshow gives a wedding a different rhythm from a traditional gallery.
Small interactions, reactions, movement and atmosphere begin to connect into one continuous story.
Pete and David’s celebration is a lovely example of how a Markree Castle wedding can feel elegant
without ever becoming formal or staged.

PHOTOGRAPHING MARKREE CASTLE

A Familiar Venue, A Completely Personal Wedding

One of the advantages of photographing Markree regularly is knowing how much variety exists within one venue.
The Chapel, courtyards, interiors, woodland and grounds all feel different, and they can be used without
turning the wedding into a long portrait session.

That matters to me. I want couples to have photographs that feel considered and beautiful,
but I also want them to stay present with their guests and enjoy the day they planned.

PLANNING QUESTIONS

Same-Sex Weddings at Markree Castle

Is Markree Castle suitable for a same-sex wedding?

Yes. I have photographed same-sex weddings at Markree Castle and the focus has always been exactly where it should be:
on the couple, their families and the celebration they want to create.

Can two grooms have a ceremony in the Chapel?

Pete and David held their civil ceremony in the Chapel at Markree Castle.
Their ceremony included separate aisle entrances, family readings and a unity candle,
showing how personal the format can be.

Can both grooms get ready at Markree Castle?

Yes. Both Pete and David stayed at the castle before their wedding.
Preparations can be organised around whether you want to remain separate before the ceremony,
spend part of the morning together or simply keep things relaxed.

Do same-sex couples follow a different legal marriage process in Ireland?

Same-sex couples can legally marry in Ireland.
The practical requirements depend on your circumstances and ceremony arrangements,
so legal and registration details should always be confirmed with the relevant Irish authorities
and your venue coordinator.

Do we need to spend a long time away from our guests for photographs?

No. My preference is to work in short, efficient portrait sessions and use the locations that make sense
for the weather, light and timeline. Knowing Markree Castle well makes that much easier.

BEHIND THE CAMERA

Your Markree Castle Wedding Photographer

For me, photographing a wedding is always about the people first.
I have photographed many different couples and celebrations over the years,
and what matters is that you feel comfortable, respected and completely free to enjoy your day.

Markree Castle is a venue I know exceptionally well.
That experience means I can give direction when it helps, step back when a moment needs space
and use the castle efficiently without making photography dominate the wedding.

I have written more about that experience in my

photographer’s review of Markree Castle
.
