REAL WEDDING AT MARKREE CASTLE

Reva & Nigel’s Indian Wedding at Markree Castle

Reva and Nigel brought an extraordinary mix of colour, family tradition and celebration to

their wedding at Markree Castle

in the west of Ireland. From the first moments of the morning to a Hindu ceremony overlooking the castle gardens, the entire day showed a very different side of Markree while still feeling completely at home within the historic estate.

Around ninety guests gathered at the castle, many wearing colourful traditional outfits and scarves prepared especially for the celebration. It became one of the most visually rich weddings I have photographed here, bringing Indian wedding traditions into one of Ireland’s most distinctive castle settings.

THE BARAAT

A Horseback Arrival Through the Gardens

Nigel’s entrance began down by the gardens, where he mounted a horse and made his way towards the castle accompanied by his groomsmen. The colourful procession approached the rear terrace before he entered the ceremony area and removed his shoes, following the traditions of the Hindu ceremony.

A HINDU CEREMONY AT MARKREE CASTLE

A Mandap Overlooking the Castle Gardens

The ceremony took place beneath a four-post mandap on the rear terrace of Markree Castle, with the formal gardens opening out behind it. Reva entered beneath a traditional canopy carried by her family, following her bridesmaids towards the mandap.

The ceremony included a sacred fire and the traditional seven rounds taken by the couple around it. At the end, Reva and Nigel left the mandap beneath a shower of flower petals from their guests. The combination of the ceremony, vivid colour and historic surroundings made the terrace an extraordinary setting for the celebration.

THE WEDDING STORY

Colour, Tradition and a Different Side of Markree Castle

After the ceremony we photographed family and friends around the terrace and gardens before spending time with Reva and Nigel throughout the estate. The day gave us everything from colourful candid moments and aerial views of the ceremony to portraits around the castle and a smoke-bomb session later in the day. Speeches followed on the main staircase, with cake cutting, dinner and dancing bringing the celebration into the evening.

INDIAN & HINDU WEDDINGS IN IRELAND

Indian Wedding at Markree Castle FAQ

Reva and Nigel’s celebration shows how naturally an Indian wedding can work within an Irish castle setting. Here are a few useful questions for couples considering a Hindu or destination wedding at Markree Castle or elsewhere in Ireland.

Can you have an Indian wedding at Markree Castle?

Yes. Reva and Nigel’s wedding is a real example of an Indian celebration at Markree Castle, combining traditional elements of a Hindu ceremony with the castle, terrace and surrounding gardens.

Can a Hindu wedding ceremony take place outdoors at Markree Castle?

Reva and Nigel held their Hindu ceremony outdoors on the rear terrace, with a mandap positioned against the backdrop of the castle gardens. Their wedding shows how beautifully this part of the estate can work for a colourful outdoor ceremony.

Is Markree Castle suitable for a destination Indian wedding in Ireland?

For couples travelling to Ireland, Markree combines a historic Irish castle setting with indoor and outdoor spaces that can accommodate different parts of a multi-stage wedding celebration. It can be especially interesting for couples who want Irish surroundings without losing the visual character and traditions of their own wedding.

What does a Hindu wedding at Markree Castle look like in photographs?

Traditional clothing, the mandap, flowers and ceremony details bring intense colour, while the stone architecture, gardens and interiors of Markree provide a completely different backdrop. Reva and Nigel’s gallery above shows the full photographic story.

Do you photograph Indian, Hindu and destination weddings in Ireland?

Yes. I photograph weddings throughout Ireland, including destination celebrations and weddings that bring together different cultures and traditions. My approach is to understand what matters to the couple and their families while documenting the day naturally as it unfolds.

ROMANTIC CASTLES OF IRELAND

One Collection / Four Distinctive Irish Castles

Markree Castle is part of the family-owned Romantic Castles of Ireland collection, together with Cabra Castle, Bellingham Castle and Ballyseede Castle. Each has its own character, but together they form a distinctive collection of historic Irish wedding venues.

Another castle in the collection where I regularly photograph weddings is Cabra Castle. It has a very different atmosphere from Markree, but the same feeling of stepping away from everyday life and spending the wedding day within a historic Irish estate.

ANOTHER CASTLE I LOVE TO PHOTOGRAPH

Cabra Castle

Cabra Castle has become another important part of my castle wedding work in Ireland. I have photographed a growing number of weddings there, creating a collection of real wedding stories alongside photography, pricing and planning resources for couples considering the venue.
