REAL WEDDINGS AT POWERSCOURT HOUSE
A Powerscourt House Wedding / A Story Close to Home
There is something particularly meaningful about celebrating your wedding in a place that has always felt like home. For Samantha and Eoghan, Powerscourt House in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, was far more than a beautiful venue. It was part of the landscape they had grown up with, a place of familiar walks, shared memories and extraordinary natural beauty.
Their August wedding brought together a traditional church ceremony, a garden reception at Powerscourt Estate and an elegant celebration inside the historic house. But what mattered most to them was beautifully simple: being surrounded by the people they loved and remembering how the day truly felt.
SAMANTHA & EOGHAN · AUGUST 2022
Their Wedding Day / From Powerscourt to the Gardens
01 / THE MORNING
Powerscourt Hotel
The day began with Samantha getting ready at Powerscourt Hotel, surrounded by the familiar anticipation of a wedding morning. The hotel is a separate venue from Powerscourt House, where the couple later celebrated their reception.
02 / THE CEREMONY
St Patrick’s Church
Samantha arrived with her father for a traditional Christian ceremony at St Patrick’s Church in Powerscourt. Eoghan and his groomsmen were there to welcome family and friends before the ceremony began.
03 / THE CELEBRATION
Powerscourt House
The celebration continued at Powerscourt House & Gardens, with a drinks reception in the gardens, time for photographs among the estate’s beautiful landscapes and an evening filled with family, friends and entertainment.
THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The Beauty of Familiar Places / An Emotional Wedding Story
When Samantha and Eoghan described their plans, they spoke about growing up locally and regularly walking their dog through the Powerscourt area. That personal connection gave their wedding an atmosphere that no elaborate styling could ever recreate on its own.
Their priority was not a long list of posed photographs. They wanted the emotion of the day, the people closest to them and the natural joy of everyone celebrating together.
For me, this is the heart of documentary wedding photography: preserving the atmosphere, the unexpected expressions and the moments that are impossible to recreate once they have passed.

A PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE
Why Choose Powerscourt House / For Your Wedding in Wicklow?
Powerscourt House brings together several qualities that are difficult to find in one wedding venue: grand historic architecture, elegant reception spaces and extensive gardens with views towards the Wicklow Mountains and the Great Sugar Loaf.
The Georgian Ballroom provides a distinctive setting for the wedding meal, while the surrounding estate offers beautiful opportunities for portraits and relaxed moments outdoors. The transition between formal interiors and natural landscapes is particularly appealing for couples who want their wedding photographs to feel varied without losing a consistent visual story.
For Samantha and Eoghan, that combination was made even more special by their personal connection to the area. Their wedding is a reminder that the most memorable venues are not always simply the grandest ones, but the places that hold genuine meaning.
PHOTOGRAPHY AT POWERSCOURT
Wedding Photography Locations / Around Powerscourt House & Gardens
The estate offers a remarkable variety of locations for wedding photographs. The key is choosing a few meaningful places rather than trying to cover every corner of the gardens.
01 / ROMANTIC GARDENS
The Rose Garden
A natural choice for romantic portraits, with formal planting, beautiful textures and a softer atmosphere away from the main reception spaces.
02 / NATURAL LANDSCAPES
The River Walk
A more relaxed setting for portraits, surrounded by greenery and the quieter natural character of the estate.
03 / DISTINCTIVE DETAILS
The Japanese Gardens
Moss-covered surfaces, layered foliage and carefully designed garden details can offer a very different photographic mood.
Access, timing and photography permissions should always be coordinated with the Powerscourt team. Garden locations may depend on the season, weather and the arrangements for your wedding.
A LITTLE PLANNING MAKES A DIFFERENCE
A Relaxed Wedding Timeline / More Time for What Matters
One of the most useful lessons from photographing a wedding at Powerscourt House is the importance of allowing enough time for the gardens without letting the photographs take over the celebration.
A carefully planned portrait session can make room for a few different garden settings, while a concise family photograph list helps everyone return to the reception sooner. I generally recommend discussing the garden route, walking distances and timing with the venue in advance.
My approach is to create beautiful portraits efficiently, then step back and document the celebration naturally. The laughter during drinks, the conversations between guests and the moments no one has planned are every bit as important as the formal photographs.
