Kate Deegan – Wedding Planner in Ireland / A Photographer’s Perspective

Elegant wedding reception at Dromoland Castle with beautifully decorated tables and guests celebrating.

A Photographer’s Perspective

Beautiful weddings are never simply a collection of beautiful details. They are the result of thoughtful decisions, careful preparation and people who genuinely care about the experience they create.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of photographing several weddings planned by Kate Deegan. From intimate celebrations at Kilkea Castle and Cloghan Castle to larger occasions at Dromoland Castle and Powerscourt House, I have seen how her approach brings together thoughtful planning, beautiful styling and a remarkable attention to detail.

Why I Recommend Kate Deegan

As a wedding photographer, I often arrive when months of planning are about to become reality. I see the ceremony space before the guests enter, the reception tables before dinner begins, and the many small decisions that shape how a wedding feels.

This is where Kate’s work has consistently impressed me. Her approach is thorough and considered, but it is also deeply connected to the visual character of each celebration. The flowers, the table settings, the atmosphere of a room and the practical flow of the day are treated as parts of the same experience.

What I particularly appreciate is that the result never needs to feel excessive to be memorable. When the details are carefully chosen and beautifully brought together, they speak for themselves.

The Visual Story

The Art of Wedding Styling

One of the things that makes Kate’s work especially interesting to me is the connection between wedding planning and styling. Through Perfect Details, she brings a considered decorative vision to the celebrations she creates.

At weddings we have worked on together, I have photographed floral arrangements, bouquets, candlelit settings and reception tables where the individual elements work beautifully as a whole. There is a clear understanding of proportion, atmosphere and how a space will be experienced by the couple and their guests.

For me, these details are more than decoration. They become part of the visual memory of the wedding — the colours, textures and little moments that make each celebration recognisably its own.

The Planning Behind the Beauty

The most successful wedding days often appear effortless to the people attending them. Behind that feeling, however, is an extraordinary amount of preparation.

I have seen Kate’s involvement extend well beyond the appearance of a venue. The wedding plans we have worked with have accounted for preparations, ceremony arrangements, family photographs, guest movements, supplier timings and the transition from one part of the day to the next.

From a photographer’s perspective, that level of preparation matters. A thoughtful timeline makes space for genuine moments. It gives a couple the opportunity to enjoy their guests, spend a little time together and experience the day without every moment feeling hurried.

A Shared Portfolio

Real Weddings with Kate Deegan

Every wedding has its own personality. These four celebrations, photographed across Ireland, offer a glimpse into the variety of Kate’s work — from intimate destination weddings to larger, beautifully styled occasions.

County Kildare · Intimate Destination Wedding

An Intimate Wedding at Kilkea Castle

Taylor and Thomas chose Kilkea Castle for a wonderfully personal celebration with around thirty guests. Their plans brought together the historic setting of the castle, a civil ceremony incorporating traditional Celtic handfasting, and the beautiful sound of a harpist.

Kate was responsible for the wedding planning, flowers and decorative details. The preparation schedule reflected a great deal of care, with time allocated for everything from the morning preparations and floral deliveries to the couple’s portraits and time with their guests.

What makes this wedding particularly lovely to revisit is its sense of intimacy. It is a reminder that thoughtful design and careful planning are just as meaningful for a small celebration as they are for a grand occasion.

County Clare · A Grand Castle Celebration

A Beautifully Considered Wedding at Dromoland Castle

Molly and Haynes celebrated their wedding at Dromoland Castle with approximately 140 guests and a large wedding party. It was a celebration with many moving parts, from the ceremony in the Kincora Gallery to the evening reception and its traditional musical touches.

Kate’s role was especially significant here. Alongside wedding planning and coordination, she and her team were responsible for the flowers. The couple also looked to Kate for decisions concerning the ceremony arrangements, the timing of their first look and the organisation of family photographs.

For a photographer, a wedding of this scale reveals the importance of good coordination. There is beauty in the finished setting, but also real value in the planning that allows so many people, moments and traditions to come together.

County Offaly · A Personal Castle Wedding

A Personal Celebration at Cloghan Castle

Elise and Jon’s wedding at Cloghan Castle was a more intimate occasion, with around forty guests and a ceremony shaped by meaningful personal traditions. Their plans included a first look on the castle staircase, handfasting and an oathing stone ceremony led by a longtime friend.

Kate was their wedding planner, helping bring together a celebration that was personal rather than conventional. Even the arrangements for photographing the guests were something the couple intended to discuss with her.

Weddings like this are a lovely reminder that excellent planning is not about imposing a particular formula. It is about understanding what matters to the couple and making room for those choices within the day.

County Wicklow · Historic Estate Wedding

An Elegant Wedding at Powerscourt House

Samantha and Eoghan chose a place that already held a special meaning for them. Having grown up in the area, they knew the landscape around Powerscourt well and wanted their wedding photographs to reflect both the beauty of the setting and the people closest to them.

Their plans brought together a church ceremony at St Patrick’s in Enniskerry and a reception at Powerscourt House and Gardens, with garden celebrations, entertainment and thoughtful decorative touches.

Kate was responsible for planning and flowers, while her team looked after the wedding on the day itself. I think that distinction is worth mentioning: a well-established planning approach is not only about one person, but also about having trusted people who can carry the vision through.

Powerscourt also illustrates something important about Kate’s work. Her experience is not limited to castles. Historic estates, elegant houses and other distinctive Irish venues can provide equally beautiful settings for her approach to planning and styling.

Working Together

What Makes a Difference from Behind the Camera

Photography gives me a particular perspective on wedding planning. I notice the things guests may never need to think about: whether the room is ready to be photographed, how the ceremony flows, when the light is at its best, and whether there is enough breathing space in the schedule for a couple to simply be together.

Across the weddings I have photographed with Kate’s involvement, I have appreciated the care given to both the practical and visual sides of the day. The planning provides structure, while the styling gives each celebration its own character.

These are qualities that matter long after the wedding is over. They influence how the day is remembered, and they are reflected in the photographs that remain.

My Personal Recommendation

I am always happy to recommend Kate Deegan to couples looking for thoughtful wedding planning, beautiful styling and someone who understands how much the smallest details can contribute to the whole experience.

My recommendation comes from seeing her work through my camera, across different venues, different celebrations and different ways of bringing a wedding to life.
