Emily & Daniel’s Winter Celebration in Sligo
Emily, originally from Sligo, and Daniel, from Scotland, celebrated their Christmas wedding at
Markree Castle
surrounded by their closest family and friends. The castle’s Christmas decorations, warm interiors and winter atmosphere became a natural part of the celebration.
Their ceremony also brought their Irish and Scottish backgrounds together through a Celtic hand-fasting tradition. For couples considering the castle at this time of year, my
Markree Castle winter wedding guide
explains how shorter daylight, the castle interiors and the wedding timeline can work together during the winter months.

Christmas at Markree Castle
Emily grew up in Sligo, while Daniel is from Scotland. After building their life together in Edinburgh, they chose to return to Emily’s home county for an intimate Christmas celebration at Markree Castle.
Their ceremony in the castle chapel included Celtic hand-fasting, bringing together their Irish and Scottish backgrounds. With Christmas decorations throughout the castle and the warmth of their closest family and friends around them, the day had a character that belonged completely to the season.
Emily and Daniel’s celebration was also featured by
One Fab Day

where they shared more of the story behind their Christmas wedding.
Winter Weddings at Markree Castle
Winter changes the rhythm of a wedding day at Markree Castle. Shorter daylight makes the timeline more important, while the chapel, drawing rooms and candlelit interiors give couples beautiful alternatives when the weather turns.
