Nicole and Michael chose Kinnitty Castle for an intimate celebration with 27 guests. Their day included preparations at the castle, a First Look before the ceremony and a symbolic ceremony led by Nicole’s mother, including handfasting.

It is a lovely example of why an intimate wedding does not need to feel like a smaller version of a traditional wedding. With fewer guests, the day can become deeply personal and centred around the people and experiences that matter most to the couple.

Intimate Destination Wedding / West Cork

Alexander & Brooke / Glengarriff Lodge

Alexander and Brooke’s wedding at Glengarriff Lodge is one of my favourite examples of just how personal an intimate destination wedding in Ireland can be. With only eight people in total, including the couple, there was no traditional bridal party and no need to build the day around a large wedding schedule.

Everything happened at Glengarriff Lodge. Brooke prepared there before walking from the lodge with her father to meet Alexander for their ceremony. Live strings accompanied the celebration, followed by drinks, family photographs and time for the two of them to explore the lodge, house and surrounding grounds together.

For couples travelling to Ireland from abroad, this kind of wedding can be incredibly freeing. Instead of trying to recreate a large traditional wedding on a smaller scale, the focus can stay on the reason everyone travelled here in the first place: being together, experiencing Ireland and creating a day that genuinely feels like their own.

A pre-wedding session, time exploring the surrounding landscape or simply an extra day without a wedding timeline can give the whole trip a different rhythm.
