Markree Castle Chapel Wedding / William & Hannah

Markree Castle Wedding in Ireland – Captured by Dublin Wedding Photographer

A REAL WEDDING AT MARKREE CASTLE

William & Hannah’s Wedding in Sligo

William and Hannah celebrated their wedding at
Markree Castle,
with the entire day unfolding within the estate.

From morning preparations and a personal chapel ceremony to photographs around the grounds, staircase speeches, dinner and an evening celebration, the day had a relaxed rhythm that allowed the story to develop naturally.

THE MORNING

Getting Ready Inside Markree Castle

Hannah spent the morning getting ready inside the castle with her bridesmaids, while William and the groomsmen had their own preparations in Markree’s billiard and snooker room.

Having both sides of the wedding morning at the same venue makes the photography much more fluid. I can move between the two stories without creating unnecessary travel or disrupting the preparations, which is one of the advantages of photographing
a full wedding day at Markree Castle.

THE CEREMONY

A Personal Ceremony in the Markree Castle Chapel

William and Hannah’s ceremony took place in the castle chapel and was led by a close friend, which made it feel especially personal.

Their ceremony included a ring warming, where family members held the rings and made good intentions over them, as well as a promise box containing goals they had written together and a bottle of champagne to be opened five years later.

One of William’s groomsmen also performed an original piece on guitar, while harpist Padraic Collins provided music for the ceremony and reception.

FAMILY & REAL MOMENTS

A Wedding Day Built Around the People Closest to Them

Their young son Harry was an important part of the day, appearing throughout the photographs without the wedding becoming centred entirely around posed family pictures.

That balance was exactly what William and Hannah wanted: natural, candid photography that still made space for the traditional family photographs and the people who mattered most to them.

THE EVENING

Staircase Speeches, Sparklers & the First Dance

The speeches took place around Markree’s grand staircase before guests moved into the dining room for dinner.

Later, everyone stepped outside with sparklers before the celebration moved into the first dance and an evening on the dance floor with Late Nite Radio.

A REAL MARKREE CASTLE WEDDING

Candid Photography with Space for Family

William and Hannah wanted their photographs to feel candid and unposed, while still making time for the traditional family photographs that mattered to them. Their son Harry was an important part of the story, alongside the family and friends who shared the day with them.

That balance is an important part of how I photograph weddings at
Markree Castle:
documenting what happens naturally while stepping in when a little direction will make the photography stronger.

A PHOTOGRAPHER’S PERSPECTIVE

Photographing a Full Wedding Day at Markree

One of the advantages of photographing the entire wedding at Markree is that the story can move through very different spaces without the couple spending large parts of the day travelling between locations.

Preparations, the chapel ceremony, family photographs, portraits around the estate, staircase speeches, dinner and the evening celebration can all become part of one continuous story.

Knowing the castle also means knowing when to use a particular room or part of the grounds, when the light is likely to work and, just as importantly, when to stop taking photographs and let the couple return to their guests.
