A Family Connection to the Castle
For Catriona and Brendan, getting married at
Markree Castle
carried a special meaning. Brendan already had a family connection to the castle through his grandparents, making their wedding part of a story that began long before the day itself.
Their celebration brought together familiar places and personal history, beginning with Catriona’s morning at the castle and Brendan’s preparations in Strandhill, followed by their ceremony in the Chapel and celebrations with family and friends.

From Strandhill to Markree Castle
One of the things I enjoy about photographing a
wedding at Markree Castle
is that the story does not always have to begin inside the castle.
While Catriona spent the morning getting ready at Markree, Brendan began his preparations with the groomsmen in Strandhill.
Having a second photographer gave us the flexibility to document both sides of the morning without rushing either part of the day.
Brendan later joined the wedding party at Markree, where we continued with photographs in the Billiard Room before the ceremony.
Groom Preparations in Strandhill
Strandhill is one of my favourite options when the groom and groomsmen are preparing away from Markree Castle.
The village and beach give us something completely different from the interiors of the castle, and even a short visit can create a relaxed set of photographs before the formal part of the day begins.
A second photographer can be especially useful when the couple are getting ready in different locations.
One photographer can stay with the bride while the other follows the groom, allowing both stories to be photographed naturally before everyone comes together for the ceremony.

A Wedding with Meaning Beyond the Day
Brendan’s connection to Markree Castle gave the wedding an unusually personal layer.
A Markree signature book dating from 1996 was displayed at the castle, including Brendan’s own childhood signature from many years before his wedding day.
His wedding ring also carried family history, having belonged to his late grandfather.
Details like these are easy to overlook when planning a wedding, but they often become some of the most meaningful parts of the finished photographic story.
A Full Wedding Day at Markree Castle
Catriona and Brendan chose a spiritual ceremony in the Chapel, including readings, prayers, a poem, ring warming and unity candles.
After the ceremony we moved through family photographs, couple portraits and the reception before the evening celebrations began.
The Billiard Room, main staircase, gardens and reception spaces all became part of the story.
Their timeline also included speeches, a private Dom Pérignon toast in the Billiard Room, dinner and an evening first dance with sparklers planned for the courtyard.
