From Milan to London, and Finally to Sligo
Komal and Carl’s story began by chance in Milan. Komal, originally from India, was studying there when she met Carl, from Northern Ireland, during one of his visits to the city. Their relationship eventually brought them to London, before their wedding brought family and friends together in Sligo.
Following a traditional Catholic ceremony at Sligo Cathedral, the celebration continued at
Markree Castle
.
With around 130 guests, portraits around the castle grounds and an evening celebration inside the historic rooms, their wedding became one of the Markree stories I photographed during my earlier years working at the venue.
Featured in Confetti Magazine
Komal and Carl’s wedding was selected for a multi-page real wedding feature in Confetti magazine. The feature told the story of their first meeting in Milan, their life in London and their journey to Markree Castle, illustrated with photographs from their wedding day.

From a Chance Meeting in Milan to Markree Castle
Komal and Carl first met in Milan while Komal was studying there and Carl was visiting the city. After meeting again near the Duomo the following day, their relationship continued across countries before they eventually made London their home.
Carl later returned to Milan with Komal and proposed at the Duomo. When it came to choosing a venue for their wedding in Ireland, they visited only a small number of possibilities before deciding on Markree Castle.
Their wedding brought together family and friends from different parts of the world for a traditional Catholic ceremony in Sligo followed by a summer reception at the castle.

Komal and Carl’s celebration was later selected for a multi-page real wedding feature in Confetti magazine. The story followed their journey from meeting in Milan and living in London to celebrating their wedding at Markree Castle in County Sligo.
The printed feature used photographs from their wedding day and credited Wojciech Koza Photography as their photographer.
Sligo Cathedral to Markree Castle
Komal prepared for the wedding at The Glasshouse in Sligo before travelling to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for their traditional Catholic ceremony.
After the ceremony, the celebrations moved to Markree Castle. Family photographs and portraits were made around the castle grounds before the drinks reception, dinner and speeches.
Later in the evening we stepped outside again for a short golden-hour session before the first dance and evening celebrations began.
A Wedding from My Earlier Years at Markree Castle
Komal and Carl’s wedding took place in July 2018 and is part of the longer history of weddings I have photographed at Markree Castle. Those years of working at the venue have allowed me to photograph the castle through different seasons, weather conditions, ceremonies and styles of celebration.
You can explore that experience, together with more real weddings and practical information, on my main

A Celebration Shared with Family
After their wedding, Komal and Carl also shared a five-star review of Markree Castle on WeddingsOnline. They highlighted how well the venue worked for their large family celebration and the opportunity for everyone to spend the wedding together in one place.
