From Morning Surf to Wedding Day
Christina and Dan’s wedding day began on the Atlantic coast, with Dan and the guys heading out for a morning surf near Mullaghmore before the celebrations moved towards Grange and
Markree Castle
.
It was a relaxed Sligo wedding with a traditional church ceremony, time with family and friends around the castle, and one brilliantly planned surprise waiting for everyone later in the evening.
Starting the Day by the Atlantic
Before suits, speeches and the reception, the morning started differently. Dan and the guys spent part of it surfing near Mullaghmore, giving the beginning of the wedding its own relaxed West of Ireland character.
Christina was getting ready in Streedagh while Dan prepared nearby in Grange. From the beginning, they wanted the photography to follow what was genuinely happening rather than turn the morning into a long staged session.
A Spring Wedding in Sligo
Christina and Dan married at Grange Church in a Catholic ceremony accompanied by a string quartet. Afterwards, everyone travelled to Markree for the drinks reception, photographs around the grounds and an evening celebration with 122 guests.
Moving from the Atlantic coastline to the countryside around
Markree Castle
gave the photographs two very different sides of Sligo within the same wedding story.

From the Atlantic Coast to Markree Castle
Christina and Dan’s wedding had a wonderfully relaxed beginning. While Christina prepared in Streedagh, Dan and the guys spent part of the morning surfing near Mullaghmore before getting ready in Grange.
Their Catholic ceremony took place at Grange Church, accompanied by a string quartet. From there, everyone travelled through Sligo to Markree Castle for the reception and the rest of the celebration.
It was a wedding that moved naturally between very different settings, from the Atlantic coastline in the morning to a country church and finally the grounds and interiors of an Irish castle.
An Afternoon with Family and Friends
After arriving at Markree, the afternoon was deliberately uncomplicated. There was time for the drinks reception, family photographs and a portrait session around the castle, indoors or outside depending on the Irish weather.
With 122 guests, much of the story was in the interactions between people. Speeches took place on the staircase before everyone sat down for dinner, allowing the day to move naturally from the reception into the evening.
When the Waiters Started to Sing
Christina and Dan had managed to keep one part of the evening completely secret from their guests. After dessert, what appeared to be members of the waiting staff suddenly revealed themselves as surprise opera singing waiters.
Only Christina and Dan knew what was about to happen. That made the reactions around the room just as important as the performance itself, with guests gradually realising that an ordinary part of dinner had turned into something completely unexpected.
Moments like this are exactly why I enjoy photographing a wedding as it unfolds. The best photographs often come from watching the room, anticipating reactions and allowing people to forget about the camera.
From Dinner to the Dance Floor
After the surprise performance, Christina and Dan cut their wedding cake before the evening moved towards the first dance and a full dance floor.
It completed a day that had begun beside the Atlantic and ended surrounded by their family and friends inside Markree Castle.
