Claire & Glenn / A Summer Wedding at Markree Castle
Claire and Glenn celebrated their
wedding at Markree Castle
with an intimate gathering of family and friends in August.
From a personal humanist ceremony and portraits around the castle to sunset,
sparklers and fireworks later that evening, their slideshow brings the different
parts of the celebration together as one complete story.
Claire & Glenn’s Wedding Day
Both Claire and Glenn prepared at Markree Castle before joining their guests
for a humanist ceremony. Their ceremony included tree planting, candle lighting
and a wine box ritual, with a string quartet providing the music.
With just 29 guests, there was plenty of space in the day for time with family
and friends as well as portraits around the castle and its grounds.
The celebrations continued through the afternoon with drinks, speeches and dinner.
Later, the evening gave us beautiful sunset light before everyone came together
again for sparklers and fireworks — a fitting finish to a relaxed summer wedding
at Markree.

Every celebration uses the castle differently. Ceremony choices, guest numbers,
the season and the timing of portraits can completely change how a wedding feels.

sunset and the fireworks that closed the evening, watch Claire and Glenn’s wedding
day unfold in one complete slideshow.
Photographing Weddings at Markree Castle
My approach is documentary at its core, with direction when it genuinely helps
and space for the rest of the day to happen naturally. A smaller celebration like
Claire and Glenn’s is a good example of why that balance matters — the photographs
should preserve the people and atmosphere without turning the wedding into a photoshoot.
Having photographed many weddings at Markree, I know how its rooms, gardens and
changing light can work at different points in the day. That experience is especially
useful when a beautiful sunset appears and plans can be adjusted without taking a
couple away from their guests for too long.

More Castle Wedding Inspiration
Markree Castle is part of the family-owned Romantic Castles of Ireland collection,
alongside Cabra Castle, Bellingham Castle and Ballyseede Castle.
Another venue in the collection where I regularly photograph weddings is Cabra Castle,
which offers a very different setting and atmosphere for an Irish castle celebration.
Cabra Castle
Cabra has a character of its own, and it is another castle I know through
photographing real wedding days there.
