Megan & Alex’s Destination Wedding at Markree Castle
Megan and Alex travelled from Minnesota to celebrate their destination wedding at
Markree Castle in Sligo.
Relaxed, personal and full of laughter, their celebration is a lovely example of how an Irish castle wedding can become much more than simply a wedding day for couples travelling to Ireland from abroad.

THEIR WEDDING STORY
From Minnesota to the West of Ireland
Megan and Alex had already officially married in 2020, which meant their celebration in Ireland could be exactly what they wanted it to be: relaxed, joyful and centred around spending time with the people who had travelled to be with them.
Megan prepared in Markree Castle’s Bridal Suite while Alex and the lads got ready in the Billiard Room overlooking the River Unshin. With beautiful weather on their side, much of the celebration could take place outdoors, making full use of the castle gardens and surrounding estate.
AN OUTDOOR CEREMONY
A Personal Celebration in the Castle Gardens
Their ceremony was personal and wonderfully informal. A friend led the ceremony, Alex’s sister gave a reading and Megan and Alex exchanged their own vows in front of their family and friends.
One of the most meaningful moments came during the unity candle ceremony, when their mothers lit the first candles before Megan and Alex lit their own. Afterwards, the atmosphere flowed naturally into drinks, family photographs and time with their guests around the grounds.
