A woodland ceremony, golden-hour portraits and a beautifully personal celebration in the Irish countryside. Kathryn and Patrick’s Juniper Barn wedding brought together their California roots, their connection to Ireland and the people who mattered most.
THE STORY
A Destination Wedding / With a Personal Story
Kathryn and Patrick’s story began during a camping trip in Santa Barbara, California. Their relationship eventually brought them to Ireland, where Kathryn pursued her medical studies. When they began planning their wedding, they wanted a celebration that felt relaxed, meaningful and connected to nature.
Set in the countryside of County Sligo, Juniper Barn offered the perfect setting. Its natural surroundings and distinctive spaces allowed the day to unfold with a wonderful sense of freedom.
My approach was to document that atmosphere honestly, combining spontaneous moments with carefully considered portraits while allowing Kathryn and Patrick to enjoy their celebration.
THE CEREMONY
A Woodland Ceremony / Surrounded by Nature
Their outdoor ceremony was one of the most beautiful moments of the day. Surrounded by trees and greenery, Kathryn and Patrick exchanged their vows in a setting that felt intimate and wonderfully natural.
A close friend officiated the ceremony, while floral arrangements by Rosebud + Pebbles complemented the woodland surroundings.
For me, photographing an outdoor wedding ceremony is about understanding the available light while remaining attentive to the moments between people. The setting provides the atmosphere, but the expressions, emotions and connections tell the real story.
THE CELEBRATION
A Relaxed Celebration / The Character of Juniper Barn
With approximately 100 guests, Kathryn and Patrick made the most of the different spaces at Juniper Barn. The celebration moved naturally between the outdoor surroundings and the venue’s characterful interiors.
From Kathryn’s Grace Loves Lace outfit to oysters from Wild Atlantic Oysters, the details reflected the couple’s personalities without feeling overly formal.
I love the variety this venue offers. Every part of the day brings a slightly different atmosphere, creating opportunities for natural documentary photography alongside elegant editorial portraits.
THE EVENING LIGHT
Golden Hour Portraits / A Moment Together
As the evening light softened, Kathryn and Patrick stepped away from their guests for a few quiet moments together. The warm colours of the landscape and the relaxed connection between them created some of my favourite photographs from the day.
A short portrait session at the right time can make a remarkable difference. Rather than spending a long time posing, I prefer to work with the available light and give couples the space to simply enjoy being together.
