A REAL SLIGO WEDDING
Samantha & Larry’s Wedding at Markree Castle
Samantha and Larry grew up only miles apart in Sligo, but it took a move to Sydney for their paths to finally cross. Years later they returned home to celebrate their wedding with family and friends, choosing
Markree Castle
for a celebration rooted in a place that had been part of Samantha’s memories since childhood.
Their day began at their family homes in Strandhill and Ballisodare, followed by a traditional Catholic ceremony at St Brigid’s Church and a relaxed reception at the castle. Their daughter Romey joined three other flower girls for the ceremony, making the celebration as much about family as it was about Samantha and Larry.
Their story was later featured by
EVOKE,
sharing the remarkable story of two people from Sligo who had to travel to the other side of the world to meet.

FROM SLIGO TO SYDNEY AND HOME AGAIN
A Love Story That Found Its Way Back to Sligo
Samantha and Larry grew up only a few miles apart in Sligo, yet they did not meet until life took them both to Sydney. Their paths finally crossed at a barbecue in Australia, beginning a relationship that would eventually bring them back home to Ireland as a family.
By the time their wedding arrived, the story had come full circle. Samantha prepared at her family home in Strandhill, Larry got ready in Ballisodare, and their traditional Catholic ceremony took place at St Brigid’s Church. Their daughter Romey walked the aisle as one of four flower girls before everyone travelled to
Markree Castle
for the reception.
It was a wonderfully local Sligo wedding with an international chapter behind it. Friends and family travelled from as far as Australia and America to celebrate with them, while the castle Samantha remembered from childhood became the setting for the final part of their wedding day.

PHOTOGRAPHING MARKREE CASTLE
Every Wedding Tells a Different Story
Years of photographing weddings at Markree have shown me how differently the castle can feel from one celebration to another. Weather, season, ceremony plans, family traditions and the people themselves all change the rhythm of the day.
Samantha and Larry’s wedding was unmistakably their own, from the quiet morning beside the Sligo coast to a family church ceremony and a packed evening celebration at the castle. If you are considering Markree for your own day, you can
