Aran Islands Wedding – A Natural Ceremony on Inisheer
Dreaming of a wedding where time slows down and the soundtrack is the ocean breeze and soft silence? The Aran Islands – especially Inisheer (Inis Oírr) – are among the most unique places in Ireland for a truly emotional, nature-filled celebration. This post brings you a real wedding day on the island – from a ceremony in a small white chapel, to walks along the beach and cliffs, a session by a shipwreck, and an intimate dinner in a rustic marquee. Perfect for couples looking for a soulful Destination Wedding Photographer or Elopement Wedding Photographer.
What It’s Like to Get Married on Inisheer
You can reach the island by ferry from Rossaveel or Doolin (approx. 45 minutes) or a short 7-minute flight from Galway. Once you arrive – stone paths, silence, horses, sea breeze and ever-changing light. It feels almost spiritual – like stepping out of time.
Ceremony at St. Mary’s Church
The ceremony took place at St. Mary’s Church – a small white chapel just a short walk from the harbor. The inside was simple, quiet and bathed in natural light. No heavy decorations – just presence, space and meaning.
This wasn’t a wild elopement – it was a classic, intimate wedding with about 50 guests. Peaceful, emotional, and honest – the perfect balance of simplicity and significance.
Bridesmaids in Colour Harmony
One of the most visually delightful parts of the day was the bridesmaids’ styling. Each wore a different pastel-coloured dress – from soft blue to peach and lavender – perfectly matched to their bouquet and even to their own champagne glass.
Every detail – florals, glassware, dresses – was intentionally coordinated. This beautiful concept was created by wedding planner Nicole Cosgrove, who made sure every little element felt thoughtful and personal.
Couple Session – Beach, Lake and Shipwreck
After the ceremony, it was time for the portrait session – and there’s hardly a better setting than Inisheer.
We started at the beach – wide, quiet and with surprisingly turquoise water. Soft light came through the clouds, casting delicate reflections on the sand.
Next, we went to An Loch Mór – the island’s peaceful lake, nestled among low hills and grass. A perfect spot for quiet, romantic moments, away from everything.
We finished at the MV Plassy shipwreck – a dramatic steel hull lying on the rocky shore. It brought an artistic, raw energy to the photos – full of history and contrast.
On the way back, we stopped for portraits among stone walls and with the ruins of O’Brien’s Castle in the background – the perfect way to complete the visual story of this wild, beautiful island.
Wedding Reception on Inisheer – Marquee Beside the Atlantic
The evening celebration took place in a bright, elegant marquee set beside Tigh Ruairí, a family-run guesthouse just a few minutes from the harbor and beach. Hidden behind stone walls and surrounded by wild island nature, this charming spot offered the perfect blend of rustic authenticity and gentle elegance – a true Inisheer gem.
Inside the tent – flowing cream drapes, warm wooden floors, and soft light filtering through the windows. Each round table was covered in white linen and adorned with wildflowers, carefully matched to the bridesmaids’ pastel dresses and delicate glassware. The styling felt effortless yet deeply thoughtful – thanks to the creative touch of Nicole Cosgrove, who ensured that every detail carried meaning.
As the sun began to set, guests gathered for a relaxed dinner filled with heartfelt speeches, laughter, and emotion. There was nothing formal or stiff – just real words shared among people who mattered. Children ran barefoot between the tables while the adults lingered over wine and music. The air was full of joy, lightness, and the unmistakable magic of an island evening.
It was the kind of reception where time slows down – and for a Destination Wedding Photographer, that’s where the most meaningful images are born.

About the Photographer & the Planner
On a day like this – full of emotion, silence, and the sound of the ocean – trust and a sense of calm are everything. And that’s exactly why working with Nicole Cosgrove felt so natural and easy.
I’m Wojciech – a Destination Wedding Photographer based in Ireland. I document weddings in a natural, story-driven way. My goal is always to capture real emotions, not just beautiful frames. I’m drawn to places with soul and to people who are not afraid to be fully themselves. Island weddings – like this one on Inisheer – are a dream: open space, shifting light, and emotional honesty that tells its own story.
Nicole Cosgrove is a wedding planner I genuinely love working with. Always attentive, present, and with a true sense of style and deep care for her couples. She knows Inisheer by heart – from transport and florals to choosing champagne glasses that match the bridesmaids’ dresses. Everything you see in the photos is the result of her quiet decisions and thoughtful details that make the day feel fluid, calm, and beautiful.
Together, we create a space where the couple can just be – in love, present, and free.

FAQ dla Par (USA i UK)
How do we get to Inisheer for our wedding?
You can reach Inisheer (Inis Oírr) by ferry from Doolin (approx. 30 minutes) or Rossaveel (approx. 45 minutes). There is also a 7-minute flight from Galway Airport operated by Aer Arann. Ferries run more frequently in spring and summer, so check schedules in advance and consider weather conditions.
Is it possible to have a legal wedding ceremony on the Aran Islands?
Yes, but it requires advance planning. You’ll need to complete the legal marriage registration process with the HSE in Ireland. If you are not a resident, you’ll need to submit paperwork at least 3 months in advance and attend a virtual appointment. Many couples choose a symbolic ceremony on the island and complete the legal paperwork separately.
Where can we hold a wedding reception on Inisheer?
Most couples opt for a marquee reception beside a guesthouse like Tigh Ruairí, which offers a charming, rustic setting. There are also several small restaurants and local halls that may accommodate intimate dinners. Availability is limited, so booking well in advance is key.
What’s the best season for a wedding on the Aran Islands?
Late spring to early autumn (May–September) offers the most reliable weather and ferry schedules. July and August are the warmest, but also busiest months with tourists. For a quieter feel, June and September are excellent choices.
Can our guests stay overnight on Inisheer?
Yes, there are multiple family-run B&Bs and small guesthouses on the island. However, accommodations are limited, so you should reserve all rooms early if you plan to host a wedding with more than 20–30 guests. Additional guests can stay in Doolin or Rossaveel and return by ferry.
What should we consider when planning a wedding on a remote island?
Weather and logistics. Ferries can be cancelled due to storms, so plan for flexibility. Ensure all vendors (catering, flowers, planner, photographer) are familiar with island logistics. Simplicity and patience are key to enjoying the process.
Is there electricity and bathroom access in a marquee setup?
Yes, most marquee setups include generators, lighting, and luxury portable bathrooms. Your wedding planner can help coordinate this with local suppliers to ensure guest comfort and a seamless experience.
Can we bring our own vendors to the island?
Yes, but you must coordinate travel and accommodation for them. Many vendors are happy to travel, especially if they are familiar with destination weddings. Hiring a planner with island experience (such as Nicole Cosgrove) will help avoid surprises.
What is the backup plan for rain?
A marquee provides excellent shelter for dinner and celebration. For outdoor ceremonies, consider renting a smaller tent or holding the ceremony in St. Mary’s Church, which is beautiful, simple, and weatherproof.
Are there wedding planners familiar with the Aran Islands?
Yes! Nicole Cosgrove is a wedding planner who specialises in remote, nature-based weddings including the Aran Islands. She can assist with logistics, styling, transport, and local coordination.
